Owner Review

After 10 years with this ute, I’m keeping her, and the ute too…

  • The longevity is a plus, and its towing power is up there too

  • The wide turning circle and stereo

The main reasons why I bought this Holden Rodeo Crew Cab in 2012 were the ease of getting in and out, due to a disability, and to tow my boat.

It still looked new on the outside, and had ample room inside for my needs and my wife’s.

It drives smoothly on most roads, smoother with a load in it, and tows the 5.4m Stacer with ease. The engine and transmission combination has been very good to me with regular servicing, but I had Natrad put in a new radiator two years ago due to a small rock damaging the old one.

The ute has been very reliable up until now. I got some bad fuel last week due to all the rain, I guess, so I had it towed to Natrad at Albion Park Rail. Those guys have been really good at keeping me on the road and come highly recommended. Turns out now, after cleaning all the lines, manifolds etc, the engine doesn’t have any compression in any of its cylinders, and looks like I need a reconditioned replacement. Ouch!

I’m going with the reconditioned motor because I love this vehicle and the memories I’ve had with it, and I have my 2022 team sticker on the tailgate.

One improvement I would like to see in a modern version of this vehicle would be a tighter turning circle. I have to three-point manoeuvre into car spaces every time. And a better sound system wouldn’t go astray either.

After 10 years with this ute, I’m keeping her, and the ute too…
