2021 Mercedes AMG GT Arrives With More Power

The enhanced Mercedes-AMG GT has 54 more hp.

Having just revealed the long-awaited 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, Mercedes-AMG has announced a surprise update for the standard GT. These updates are currently specified for the European version, but they should carry over to the US model.

For 2021, the output of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe and Roadster’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 has increased to 530 horsepower, which is around 54 more hp than the previous model. This still positions it below the 577-hp AMG GT R, but the performance gap between the two models has certainly narrowed so we’ll have to wait and see if the GT R gets a similar upgrade. Mercedes-AMG hasn’t said how the increased output has affected performance, but we expect the GT’s 3.9-second 0-62 mph sprint time has reduced by a few tenths of a second.

Standard equipment for the Mercedes-AMG GT now includes the AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive damping adjustment, an electronic locking differential on the rear axle, high-performance composite brakes, and red brake calipers. Other new equipment includes a lithium-ion starter battery and a “Race” drive program, while active rear-axle steering is optionally available in conjunction with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package.

For a more sinister look, a special Night Edition of both AMG GT variants adds the AMG Exterior Night Package, black brake calipers, a dark chrome grille, black headlight surrounds, and 19-inch matt black Y-spoke wheels on the front and 20-inch wheels on the rear. A carbon-fiber roof with dark-tinted areas on the Coupe and Roadster’s black soft top round off the exterior enhancements. Available paint options include black, obsidian black metallic, selenite grey metallic and designo graphite grey magno.
