So, here we are in the middle of the new car shortage due to the chip shortfall.

Owner: John Templin

  • Safety features are probably the best things about the Forester

  • This is not a dislike but a minor issue: not being able to close the windows and sunroof remotely

So, here we are in the middle of the new car shortage due to the chip shortfall. We ordered a new Forester and were told we would be waiting some months for delivery, and that was late June 2021. We got notified the car had been completed in August.

Suddenly, five weeks later we had our new Subaru. Because of COVID-19, the delivery was ‘click and collect’. We left our trade-in vehicle in the dealership driveway, and our new Forester awaited us with a big red bow. The keys were in the central console.

We bought the Forester as we tow a small Jayco camper, and although our Peugeot 308 diesel was more than capable, the ground clearance was not sufficient.

Subaru has a great reputation for reliability and longevity. Our decision was based on the towing capacity, safety features, full-size spare tyre, and cargo space for our family dog that comes with us on trips.

We are very happy with all aspects of the Forester. Economy in the city is about 10 litres per 100 kilometres, but on a trip towing our 800kg Jayco camper trailer we averaged 8.5L/100km. So far we have found the Forester to be sensational. Although the Forester appears large, it is very comfortable to drive in busy city traffic as well as parking.

The safety features are amazing, especially the adaptive cruise control.

The only thing we would like to have is that when leaving the vehicle, you are not able to close the windows or sunroof remotely. This must be done before turning the engine off, but it is a minor issue.

We have driven Peugeot diesel wagons for the last 15 years, but we are thrilled to have purchased our Subaru Forester.
