The facelifted 2022 BMW X3 and X4 range debuts. The M and M Competition variants now deliver more torque.
The German automaker has overhauled the BMW X3 and X4 on the design issue, adding new technologies and features. The updated lineup also includes the hotter X3 and X4 variants.
Both models received slimmer headlights, an enlarged grille and redesigned front bumpers with vertical triangular air intakes. Also, the models received a unique design in the front. At the rear, bumpers and taillights were redesigned. The M Sport package returns for the 2022 model year, giving both models a more aggressive look without compromising on the full M model.
The X3 M40i stands out from other X3s with its unique BMW M radiator grille, M logo, M exterior mirrors and a unique tailpipe trim. The X4 M40i has received several similar styling improvements. Larger grilles and slimmer headlights also adorn the X3 M and X4 M. Each model gets a more aggressive front bumper with larger vents to provide better cooling for powerful cars. Both received M-specific rear bumpers and other sporting elements at the rear.
Inside, the center console has been redesigned with a new layout that sits beneath a reimagined instrument cluster and a new 10.25-inch infotainment display in the X3. The Live Cockpit Professional update expands that screen to 12.3-inches and the dashboard to a 12.3-inch display. Large screens come standard on the X4.
Interior highlights on the two M models include M sports seats with M logo illumination, Merino leather upholstery, Alcantara knee pads on the center console, and a multifunction steering wheel.
BMW’s 2.0-liter turbo engine will be used for the X3 sDrive, X3 xDrive30i and X4 xDrive30i models. It produces the same 248 hp. and 349 Nm, accelerating the pair to 96 km / h in 6 seconds. The top speed for both is 209 km / h. The X3 M40i and X4 M40i get a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid that delivers 382 hp. and 500 Nm. Acceleration to 60 in 4.4 seconds, while hybrid technology offers an additional 11 hp.
The 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six in the X3 M and X4 M delivers the same power output as the previous models – 473 hp. for standard M and 503 hp for Competition. The X3 M and X4 M now develop 619 Nm, while the Competition models now develop 649 Nm. The maximum speed is limited to 249 km / h.
Production of the 2022 X3 and X4 will begin in August this year, with the X3 M and X4 M in September.
