The 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R debuted at the Chicago International Auto Show. These new items are sure to be among the most popular hot hatchbacks in 2021.
The Mk8 Golf GTI version received a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 241 hp. and 370 Nm of torque. The model can also be offered with a six-speed manual transmission as standard.
For a surcharge, you can order a seven-speed dual clutch. As with all previous GTI models, power is transmitted exclusively through the front wheels.
Car enthusiasts can choose from three different trim levels: GTI S, GTI SE and GTI Autobahn.
The entry-level model packs an impressive array of features, including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.25-inch infotainment screen. It also features a seven-speaker sound system and ambient lighting with 30 different colors.
The GTI SE performance will provide customers with automatic high beams, a 10-inch infotainment screen, a 480-watt Harman / Kardon nine-speaker audio system, a wireless App-Connect app for compatible devices, and Wi-Fi capability. The GTI Autobahn comes with 19-inch wheels, summer tires, DCC adaptive damping, 12-way adjustable driver’s seat and more.
Like the Golf GTI, the new Golf R is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. However, it delivers a more impressive 315bhp. and 400 Nm of torque with DSG or 380 Nm with a six-speed manual transmission. The Golf R also features the advanced 4Motion all-wheel drive system with rear-axle torque vectoring.
