An electric Bugatti is inevitable. Given that even Ferrari is set to unveil an electric car in 2025 and Bentley wants to go all-electric by 2030, it’s no surprise that Bugatti, another exotic automaker, will undergo the same transformation, but with a big difference in Bugatti’s uncertain future.

Porsche CEO Oliver Bloom said last week that Volkswagen will soon make a decision on the future of Bugatti, with the result that the anticipated venture between Porsche and Rimac will result in both swallowing up Bugatti. “Coming soon” looks like it will be “very soon” as it was announced after a recent visit to Bugatti headquarters in Molsheim that the takeover of Bugatti Rimac / Porsche will be announced on 6 July.

Not only will we be able to get a first glimpse of what the first electric Bugatti could be, but also details on the Rimac / Porsche takeover and how it will all evolve. It is possible that the new Bugatti EV will feature some of the technology showcased in the stunning Rimac Nevera electric hypercar. Porsche, as a manufacturer of electric vehicles like the Taycan, could potentially oversee the development of Rimac’s Bugatti EV.

Previous reports indicate that Rimac will own a 55 percent stake in the French automaker. While we wait for confirmation of all of this, the first electric Bugatti has been presented in renderings. Using the spectacular Bolide as a base, the artist drew inspiration from other Bugatti models such as the Chiron.

Since this is an electric car, some of the more extreme details have been smoothed out, and the massive Bolide rear fender with a bucket on the roof has been removed altogether. The Bugatti E features slim headlights that mimic Chiron headlights and a unique interpretation of the traditional horseshoe grille. We’ll find out more about the next chapter of Bugatti, which starts in about a week.
