Elon Musk said he would not be upset by the failure of Cybertruck over controversial design

There has been a lot of buzz in the electric pickup segment lately. Promising startups Rivian, Canoo and Lordstown Motors are showing their models here. But until recently, all attention was focused on the Tesla Cybertruck.

Its rivals have one important advantage – they got a design that is more understandable for an ordinary buyer. The controversy over the appearance of the Tesla Cybertruck has not subsided since its public premiere. Elon Musk himself recognizes the originality of Tesla’s electric pickup, which not everyone is able to understand and accept. He honestly admitted that he would not be upset by the failed sales of Cybertruck.

Musk does not rule out that the electric pickup can scare off potential buyers with its overly bold design. At the same time, the head of Tesla loves Cybertruck precisely for its unique appearance. It is unlike other cars in its segment, which makes it unique. The serial pickup will repeat the appearance of the show-cap presented in the fall of 2019.

However, taking into account the opinion of customers, the automaker still agreed to make minor changes to the design of the Cybertruck. It is known that the commercial electric pickup truck will lose its traditional door handles (the car will unlock the doors on its own when the owner approaches) and will receive a steering suspension on the rear axle.

Skeptical auto experts expect that after the first quite good sales, there will be a decline in demand.

At first, customer enthusiasm will work on positive dynamics, but this cannot last long. After a noticeable reduction in deals, Tesla will nevertheless decide to release an electric pickup with a more traditional design. According to preliminary data, from 650 thousand to a million people managed to book the novelty.

It is difficult to predict how many pre-orders will eventually turn into real purchases. The pickup will reach the conveyor at the end of 2021 or at the beginning of 2022. It will be produced at a plant under construction in Texas. But supplies, most likely, will have to wait until next year.
