Ford in Romania to start assembling new electric minivan from 2024

Ford’s Craiova plant produces the EcoSport and Puma SUVs and the EcoBoost turbocharged 3-cylinder gas engine. In total, the concern has invested $ 2 billion in the Romanian plant since its purchase in 2008. The brand said today it will spend another $ 300 million to get the company ready to assemble a new minivan.

The all-electric commercial vehicle will arrive on assembly lines in 2023. It will not get to dealers until 2024 as an electric car. It will be Ford’s first electric vehicle to be produced in Romania. This is an important step towards realizing plans to develop a line of light commercial vehicles with electrical installations by 2024.

According to the president of Ford in Europe, the arrival of the electric version in 2024 means that the Romanian plant will become the third enterprise of the brand in Europe to assemble electric cars.

The brand says the new model will be more than an electric car. Car enthusiasts will be offered a choice of several gasoline and diesel units, including a productive diesel engine produced at the British Ford plant in Dagenham.

We now know little about the new car. At the same time, we can say with confidence that it will be produced together with the Volkswagen developers. Under a recent agreement between the two auto giants, Ford will launch a midsize truck and one-tonne commercial minivan, while VW will offer a small city car.
