Honda has updated one of its most famous models, the Civic, which we met just a few days ago. At the same time, the Japanese firm said in a press release that the Honda Civic Type R will appear in 2022 along with the Honda Civic Hybrid.
The Japanese brand recently unveiled the Civic sedan, but the hatchback will serve as the basis for the Type R. Although Honda did not provide further details, rumors have it that it is equipped with a manual transmission and front-wheel drive.
The new generation Civic is an evolution of what is already well known, with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 320 hp.
There are also speculations about the emergence of a 400-horsepower Honda Civic Type R Hybrid. Thus, the car will receive four-wheel drive with one or two electric motors on the rear axle. Those in charge of Honda have confirmed that this will be the latest version of the sports car to run on gasoline.
Note that the Honda Civic Type R will have one less competitor, as Renault Sport, the sports arm of the French brand that turned into Alpine, will not update the Megane RS. This does not mean that the French will stop making sports cars, although many of them will be electric.
The Japanese brand adheres to two mottos in the creation of the Civic Type R. The first is that it is designed for competition, and the second is that it is designed for asphalt. However, details about the model will not appear until the end of this year, and the novelty itself will debut only in 2022.
