Kia announced that it will enter a new market segment in India early next year. The 7-seater model from the Korean brand will be an all-new MPV, internally codenamed KY.
The new Kia MPV will be the brand’s second minivan in India. This new model will be much cheaper than the Carnival and will take its place between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta.
The new Kia KY will have a typical passenger silhouette with a three-row layout with 6 or 7 seats. The platform will pass from fellow Seltos and will have a length of about 4.5 m.
Kia’s all-new KY minivan will go on sale early next year. It will be bigger than Seltos. It will be produced in India and exported to many countries.
The first set of spy shots popping up online provides some hints on what to expect from the styling. In particular, the Kia MPV will receive round headlights with LED daytime running lights positioned above. They are similar to Seltos optics. There will be a wide grille with a “tiger nose” and other stylish elements with chrome accents. The minivan will be equipped with 16-inch wheels and MRF Wanderer tires, like the Seltos.
Kia’s 1.5-liter diesel engine will be the main engine for the KY minivan in India. The engine lineup will also include a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. KY will be the only MPV in India to be sold with both gasoline and diesel engines. It is expected that in the future there will be a variant with a diesel unit and an automatic transmission and a gasoline engine.
Kia plans to organize the assembly of the MPV KY in India, from where the cars will go to showrooms in India, Indonesia and other markets. We expect the Kia KY MPV to be unveiled later this year.
