Kia tests next-generation Sportage crossover in Europe

The body of the crossover is still hidden under a protective film, but this time it was possible to make out the head optics of the new Sportage, peeping through the camouflage.

The debut of the fifth generation Kia Sportage may take place in June, so the latest spy shots of the future novelty were very useful. The new compact crossover was caught on tests in Europe. The test car makes it difficult to see the camouflage in detail, but the headlights of an unusual shape are visible through the disguise, which should give the Sportage of the NQ5 generation a characteristic look.

The radiator grille, despite the latest trends in automotive fashion, looks compact. The side profile shows quite a few changes over the previous model. For example, the rearview mirrors are now positioned lower on the doors instead of at the base of the A-pillar. There is now a small fixed glass in this area, which in theory should improve the look a bit.

Another “new thing” is a chrome-plated belt line that rises smoothly to the C-pillar. But in the current Sportage, it is almost flat. The direction indicator for the new compact cross has moved to the main rear lamp unit.

And spy shots show us the independent rear suspension and part of the exhaust system.

Apparently, a SUV with a standard wheelbase was taken out for tests. Moreover, we know that a long wheelbase Kia Sportage will appear in some regional markets (the same China). It is possible that the new cross will receive hybrid and plug-in hybrid power plants, like its co-platform Tucson. The interior was not included in the pictures this time. But from past photos from tests in South Korea, it is known that inside the crossover there will be a setup with two screens a la Mercedes and a more spacious rear sofa. The market debut of the novelty is scheduled for the end of the year.
