Kia unveils off-road version of the electric Soul

Kia concept is part of brand sponsorship of the Boardmasters 2021 surf and music festival in the UK

The British branch of the Korean Kia has unveiled a new off-road concept Soul EV Boardmasters Edition. The car, according to the idea, should demonstrate outstanding off-road capabilities.

The new electric concept was made in support of the Boardmasters surfing and music festival, which takes place on the shores of the British town of Cornwall from 11 to 15 August.

Externally, the car can be easily distinguished from a regular crossover by its increased ground clearance of up to 310 mm, off-road wheels in size 265/75 R16 and a roof rack for surfing with LED lights. In addition, the Soul EV Boardmasters Edition is painted in a striking blue with white accents and is equipped with a small solar panel on the roof.

In the interior of the model, there have been no less changes. The back row has been completely removed and the floor has been covered with natural wood.

However, another thing is interesting – the car received a rear independent suspension, which was never installed on the Soul. On the Kona soplatform, such a suspension is installed in the appendage with all-wheel drive. The off-road Soul doesn’t seem to get it, however. The car is equipped with a single electric motor on the front axle, which produces 204 horsepower and 395 Nm of torque.

The power plant is powered by a 64 kWh battery. The range has not been disclosed, but Kia UK jokes that “the changes we have made are likely to affect the official 450 km range.”

Serial production of the car is not expected, the concept car is only intended to draw attention to the festival and the brand as a whole.
