Mercedes-Benz confirms Maybach S680 with V-12 engine with teasers

Mercedes has revealed several photos of the new S-Class range, which will mark the 100th anniversary of the Maybach luxury sub-brand.

Mercedes has released new photos confirming the existence of a V-12 powered Maybach S680. This unit could be an updated version of the twin-turbo 6.0-liter engine of the previous Maybach S650 with as much power as possible.

Maybach celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. In honor of the occasion, Mercedes is hinting at the return of the V-12-powered S-Class. The teaser shows a side view of the Maybach S-Class, and there is a V12 badge just in front of the front door, suggesting that the 12 cylinders can once again find their way under the S-Class’s bonnet.

Maybach currently only has two vehicles on the market: the GLS600 in 2021 and the S580 in 2021. Both models are powered by twin-turbocharged V-8 twin-turbo engines.

The first is only slightly more powerful than the second. They are assisted by 48-volt hybrid systems. Prior to this teaser, Mercedes did not mention that the 2021 Maybach S-class will receive a V-12 engine.

The Maybach S650 is twin-turbocharged with a 6.0-liter V-12 with 621 horsepower. Mercedes has not confirmed any plans for the new S650. In contrast, in a teaser release, the automaker says: “The 100th anniversary of the first Maybach in 2021 will see a host of initiatives celebrating this spirit.”
