The Toyota Auto Body division in 2023 plans to bring to the Dakar rally a car based on the new Land Cruiser 300, the presentation of which took place just a few days ago. The rally SUV will operate in the Production / T2 class, where the vehicles that are as close as possible to the production models are used.
The Land Cruiser 300 will be adopted by the Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body, which has been successfully participating in the Land Cruiser 200 for 9 years and has repeatedly won the SUV category.
“With the new Land Cruiser with the driving performance required for tough races, Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body will not only win in the Production / T2 category, but also develop a vehicle to rally specifications,” the team said.
Today, Land Cruiser 200s race almost entirely from the factory. The only changes that the model receives is the installed roll cage and loses a number of interior elements (spare tires are provided instead of the rear seats), and is also equipped with an additional fuel tank, snorkel and double sport shock absorbers.
At the same time, the frame, internal combustion engine, transmission and other elements are not subject to modifications. In this state, Japanese SUVs easily pass the entire track.
