Spanish brand SEAT has expanded its partnership with the Volkswagen Group to bring new small electric vehicles to production in Spain. This country was on the list of places considered for the construction of a battery manufacturing plant.

SEAT was one of the leading brands in the presentation of the Volkswagen Group’s NEW AUTO strategic plan until 2030. Spain is positioned as a key country for the future production of electric vehicles and batteries.

SEAT and Volkswagen Group are ready to partner with the Spanish government to create an e-mobility hub. For this reason, they will request participation in PERTE, which will allocate more than 4 billion euros for the development and production of electric vehicles in Spain.

One of the most important electromobility projects is the development of the Small BEV family. It is a series of small electric vehicles supported by the MEB platform variant. Spain, more specifically SEAT, has been nominated as the company responsible for the production of these new electric vehicles.

There are many possibilities for these new electric vehicles to be produced at SEAT’s Martorell factories. Everything will depend on support from the public sector. In addition, Spain is considered one of the possible locations for the construction of a battery manufacturing plant. At the moment, it has already been decided that these production centers will be built in Sweden and Germany.

The Volkswagen Group wants to build six gigafactories of batteries for electric vehicles in Europe. If all goes well, Spain will become the third country on this list. This plant will supply these components for the hypothetical electric vehicles produced by SEAT in Catalonia.
