The very first Formula 1 car driven by the legendary Michael Schumacher was put up for sale in the UK.

This Jordan 191 – Ford Cosworth HB, driven by Schumacher, took part in the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix, the star’s first race. It is one of seven units built and one of two that Schumacher managed. Andrea De Cesaris and Alex Zanardi also drove the car.

Speedmastercars notes that De Cesaris first got behind the wheel of a Jordan at the 1991 Hungarian Grand Prix, where he qualified 16th and eventually finished 7th. Two weeks later, Schumacher made his debut at the wheel of a car. During the race weekend in Belgium, it didn’t take long for Schumacher to go faster than De Cesari, despite driving De Cesari’s car. Schumacher started the race 7th, but on the first lap he had to retire due to a traction problem.

So impressed by Schumacher’s performance on his first race weekend, Flavio Briatore took him to the Benetton F1 team the following week.

After the 1991 season, the car in question was sold to a Belgian car collector, after which it was resold in 2005. Since then, the sports car has repeatedly appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and remains in working order. It was last shown at the Masters Historic Race Weekend in Donington Park earlier this year.
