Volkswagen to launch ID.X ‘charged’ electric hatchback

It will be an all-wheel drive electric car, the “donor” for which will be the usual Volkswagen ID.3. The “hot” novelty will receive two electric motors with a total output of 329 horsepower.

Volkswagen CEO Ralph Brandstatter revealed the brand’s new electric concept with the intriguing name ID.X. The appearance of the concept car came as a real surprise, despite the fact that rumors about the possible creation of a high-performance ID.3 electric hatch have been long cherished.

According to Brandstatter, the production car will not copy the concept: it will only borrow the best ideas from the show car. The novelty is based on the universal electric platform MEB.

Externally, the ID.X can be distinguished by a more sporty design: it is a bright green decor in the exterior and interior, and the hatchback also got large bucket seats with embroidered ID.X letters and large alloy wheels.

The technical stuffing has also undergone an upgrade, with the concept borrowing the battery and transmission from the high-performance ID.4 GTX.

The battery capacity varies from 62 kWh to 82 kWh, but the power plant is more powerful than that of the ID.4 GTX – 329 hp. against 295. And the new electric hatch will be the lightest in the electric family ID: the developers managed to reduce the weight of the electric car by 200 kilograms. Due to what the car lost so noticeably in weight, it is not reported. There is no data on the range of the concept. However, the automaker has hinted that the result will be impressive. Up to a hundred ID.X will accelerate in 5.3 seconds. In addition, the novelty will receive a Drift mode in the spirit of the new Golf R.

Earlier, AutoTimesNews said that the Chinese startup Nio began production of its first ET7 sedan. Prior to that, only electric crossovers were present in the brand’s lineup.
